While Floyd Mayweather Jr.'s last two fights vs. Marcos Maidana were arguably more competitive than his 2013 clash with Canelo Alvarez, there's no questioning there was less interest. Fans are once again clamoring for Mayweather to face Manny Pacquiao, and so is Pacquiao's greatest rival-Juan Manuel Marquez.
"As a fan, I think the fight should get done and they need to stop the bickering over who wants to earn more than the other," Marquez, who has fought Mayweather once and Pacquiao four times, said.
"The most important thing here is that the fight is carried out and that both of them stop talking about nonsense and give the fans what they want-the fight. First thing they need to make this fight to make it clear who is who."
Pacquiao is coming off his second win of 2014 when he knocked down Chris Algieri, the WBO junior welterweight champion, six times en route to a unanimous decision victory. Since being knocked out by Marquez in 2012 Pacquiao has earned three consecutive victories.
Top Rank promoter Bob Arum has commented recently with renewed optimism about the super fight.
After Pacquiao defeated Algieri Arum said "If boxing is to be considered a major sport the fight has to happen," Arum said. "All the nonsense has to cease. Everyone should work together to make that fight happen. There are no excuses any more. I will be at the phone. We are ready."
Before the fight had even taken place, Arum spoke of high-level talks for a bout being underway.
"I am now more optimistic that the fight is going to happen than I was three or four years ago. I am talking to responsible people who are in touch with the Mayweather guys. All of these people have the ability to move it ahead and make it happen."
