NBA 'I Can't Breathe' Protests: Brooklyn Nets, LeBron James Wear T-Shirts Supporting Eric Garner

The Cleveland Cavaliers and Brooklyn Nets met in Brooklyn on Monday night, and several players from both teams wore black "I Can't Breathe" t-shirts in support of Eric Garner. Garner died in New York as the result of a confrontation with a police officer, and the officer was not indicted by a grand jury.

Derrick Rose initially wore one of the shirts before the Chicago Bulls played on Saturday, and many players endorsed his decision. LeBron, among others came out and said they also wanted one of the shirts.

According to media reports, LeBron got his wish before Monday's game. LeBron was not alone, either. Kyrie Irving, Kevin Garnett, and Deron Williams were among the other players wearing the shirts.

As for his decision to wear the shirt, LeBron said, "It's not a Cavs thing. It's a worldly thing." James has previously spoken out about similar incidents between police officers and African-American males, including Tamir Rice in Cleveland and Mike Brown in Ferguson.

"It's just for us to make a [statement] to understand what we're going through as a society," James added about the T-shirt. "I've been quoted over and over about what's going on as far as it's more of a notion to the family, more than anything. Obviously, as a society we have to do better. We have to be better for one another. It doesn't matter what race you are. It's more of a shout out to the family more than anything, because they're the ones that should be getting all the energy and effort."

Nets guard Jarrett Jack, who played for Cleveland last season, heard that James and some of the other players wanted the shirts, and he supplied them for the players on both teams.
