Colin Montgomerie: Rory McIlroy Better Than Tiger Woods In His Prime? [VIDEO]

Legend Gary Player says that if Tiger Woods were to spend an hour with him, the Tiger Woods of old would reappear.

Colin Montgomery says that wouldn't matter. Rory McIlroy is better than Tiger at his best.

Tiger Woods' success no longer dependent upon golf victories?

"Tiger Woods is going to come back into the frame," Montgomerie told Kicca.com. "Is he going to be able to get back, not just to the levels he was, but better than that? Because that's where Rory McIlroy's taken the standard of golf: to one level beyond where Tiger was."

The 25-year-old McIlroy finished 2014 as the No. 1 player in the world after wins at the British Open and PGA Championship. Montgomery said he envisions that majors streak continuing in 2015, beginning with the Masters in April.

Former Tiger Woods caddie rails on media for calling Woods "cheap."

"You'd have to say McIlroy is favorite. It's about time he won it," added Montgomery.

And if that happens, it's not out of the question that McIlroy could use a broom.

"If he does win the Masters that US Open will be a big, big, big do indeed," said Montgomerie.

"Can he win all four in a year? That's another question on people's lips within our game. Can he win all four in a year, never mind two? That means six in a row. Wow, that'll be something.

"If you're a betting man - I'm sure there's a lot of people putting money on it - I'm sure it's a 100-1 shot but it's worth a punt."

According to the Daily Mail, the odds of McIlroy winning the Grand Slam next year currently are 80-1 with several bookmakers.

If I was a gambler, which I'm not, I'd put money on that," Montgomerie said. "He's that dominant, and that good."

Which is what Player says of Woods if only he would listen.

"I would love to sit down with him for one hour and give him a piece of my knowledge," Player said, according to golfchannel.com. "Then I think he could win majors."
