Manziel lost the quarterback competition to Brian Hoyer during training camp, although he was eventually given the starting role late in the season after the Browns were eliminated from playoff contention.. During his time on the field, Manziel often looked overwhelmed, and he exhibited poor decision making in addition to missing open receivers with his throws.

Some in the media think that Manziel's penchant for enjoying nightlife is part of his problem. ESPN's Skip Bayless has said that he believes that Manziel is an alcoholic and should seek help for the disease.
Manziel was late to a team meeting last week after staying out late at the bars the previous night. His lack of sleep led to him oversleeping, which resulted in his tardiness.
