Bayern Munich Transfer News: Liverpool Agree to £10 Million Deal for Xherdan Shaqiri, Competition from Manchester United and Arsenal

Hoping to bolster their roster and push for a Champions League spot in the Premier League, Liverpool have agreed to a deal for Bayern Munich's Xherdan Shaqiri. According to the Daily Star (via Goal Transfer Talk), said deal is in the neighborhood of £10 million.

Xherdan Shaqiri Too Expensive for Juventus

Per the reports, Arsenal and Manchester United were also in competition for the Swiss star. Juventus served as another potential suitor.

The news, however, comes as a direct contradiction to words uttered by manager Brendan Rodgers. Prior to Liverpool's 2-2 draw with Leicester City on New Year's Day, Rodgers voiced his appeasement with the weapons at his disposal.

Xherdan Shaqiri Seeking Minutes Elsewhere

"I'm happy with what I've got," he said (via Liverpool Echo). "There won't be a lot of transfer activity from us, if any, over the course of the January period. We brought in a lot of players in the summer who we felt could develop. They are starting to adapt to life here at Liverpool and to this way of working."

New life after shifting to a 3-4-1-2 system is the driving force behind Rodgers' comments. The club enters the weekend riding a five-match unbeaten streak (3-2-0), enough for the Liverpool boss to remain wary of overspending in the coming weeks.

"I don't think January is a good time to spend," he continued. "If you look back to last January, we didn't bring anyone in. If there is something available, then the beauty of our owners here is that they will always back what it is we want to do. If we felt there was something that would improve us over the short term or longer term, we would pretty much do that. But I'm happy with the strength of the squad and with how the group is progressing."

Liverpool return to action on Saturday, visiting Sunderland at the Stadium of Light.
