Chris Johnson Is Confident He Can Reach 2,000 Yards Again

Chris Johnson is confident he can match his historic 2,000-yard season from 2009 in the upcoming NFL season. The Tennessee Titans star said in a radio interview with the Jim Rome Show that, although his primary goal is to lead the Titans into the playoffs, he still has the ability to rush for 2,000 yards.

"I know I have another 2,000-yard season in me," Johnson said Tuesday during the interview. "I would love to get 2,000 yards again, but I haven't been to the playoffs since my rookie year. I want to get back there."

Johnson became the sixth player in NFL history to reach the 2,000-yard plateau in 2009, when he rushed for 2,006 yards and 14 touchdowns in just his second season. But the three-time Pro Bowler has not approached those numbers since, failing to rush for more than 1,400 yards in each of the last three seasons.

Tennesseee, who have failed to reach the playoffs since going 13-3 in 2008, revamped their offensive line this offseason with the free-agent signing of guard Andy Levitre and the selection of Alabama standout guard Chance Warmack with the 10^th overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft.

Johnson told the Jim Rome Show that he was more than pleased with the addition of the two linemen.

"I was like, 'Thank God,'" he said. "[It showed] they're trying to put somebody in front of me and opening some more holes for me."

Johnson, 27, reiterated during the interview that he initially was unhappy that the Titans' decided to sign free agent running back Shonn Greene, who figures to get carries in short-yardage and goal-line situations. However, Johnson claimed that he now understands why the Titans added Greene.

"At the end of the day, you want to stay in there," he said during the interview. "I'd rather have 2,000 yards than have 20 touchdowns, so you got to take the good with the bad."
