Colin Kaepernick Update: 49ers' Offseason Plans Ignoring His Work With Kurt Warner? [VIDEO]

The San Francisco 49ers could be accused of raising the white flag on Colin Kaepernick's pocket-passing skills before he's had a chance to work on them.

The Sacramento Bee is reporting that one of the 49ers' offseason priorities to go get their quarterback into his comfort zone, and that means using Kaepernick as a runner.

Colin Kaepernick admits having a crush on Rihanna and Nicki Minaj

"A significant change in 2015 figures to be a return to the read-option," the Bee reported. "The degree to which it will be used is unknown, but coach Jim Tomsula and CEO Jed York have mentioned in recent interviews that the 49ers will take better advantage of Kaepernick's legs.

"There was a sense inside the front office that San Francisco's offense was too clunky in recent years, that it had too many moving parts that bogged it down."

Kurt Warner says he's impressed with Colin Kaepernick's work on the chalkboard

The Bee went on to speculate that the offense would be simpler and streamlined with the intent of getting to the line of scrimmage more quickly to put more pressure on defenses and take pressure off Kaepernick.

Whether the 49ers talked to Kaepernick about their plans is unknown. He is currently in Phoenix, working on his pocket-passing skills on the field with EXOS Performance coach Dennis Gile and on the chalkboard with former Super Bowl Most Valuable Player Kurt Warner.

Warner, who's immobility leans toward legendary, is trying to help Kaepernick learn the nuances of the becoming a pocket-passer.

Logic would dictate that the 49ers would want to see Kaepernick in action when he attends their minicamp to see how much he has learned about pocket presence and effectiveness. If he still struggled, they could always turn to Plan B.

But so far the owner and new coach (and former 49ers line coach) are moving forward with plans of using Kaepernick the way he was used in 2011-12 and 2012-13 when he was freer to take off and create big plays.

That strategy seems to be in conflict with Kaerpernick's quest to develop a pocket presence.
