There comes a time in every athlete's life when the sport that he or she grew up loving is no longer the sole focus of their life. For legendary swimmer Michael Phelps, that time may have finally arrived, as the record-setting gold medalist is reportedly engaged.

According to his Instagram page, Phelps has gotten engaged to Nicole Johnson, a former beauty queen and Miss California winner.

Phelps and Johnson have had an on-again, off-again relationship for several years now, but photos of the two hanging out together began surfacing again months ago once Phelps got out of rehab after netting himself a DUI charge.

Phelps chose to reveal on Instagram that he finally asked Johnson to marry him, and she certainly has the ring to prove it, which she shows off in the picture.
It is unknown at this time whether the engagement and subsequent wedding will affect Phelps' plans for the 2016 Olympics. The swimmer has gone back and forth about his desire to retire from international swimming for a while now.
The U.S. men's swim team would presumably allow Phelps to take his time with the decision, as the legendary swimmer probably still has what it takes to help the team, even if he is no longer able to compete at a high level in eight different events.
