San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick one-upped rival QB Russell Wilson of the Seattle Seahawks. Again.
The 49ers edged the Seahawks for the West Division crown during the 2012 NFL season. San Francisco ultimately went to the Super Bowl behind Kaepernick while the Seahawks' stunning comeback against the Atlanta Falcons in the NFC Divisional Playoffs ended 30 second too early.
Kaepernick threw out the ceremonial first pitch before the San Francisco Giants game against the Miami Marlins at AT&T Park on Friday night. USA Today is reporting that the former University of Nevada star clocked 87 miles per hour on the radar gun.
Wilson made faux news earlier this month when he threw out the first pitch before a Seattle Mariners game against the New York Yankees. A photo of Wilson went viral because the scoreboard behind him showed the number "98" as the mph he reached.
It was later reported that Wilson actually hit 75 mph on the radar gun.
The USA Today reported added that Kaepernick could throw a 94 mph ball when he played high school baseball in 2006 at Pittman High School in Turlock, Calif. The Chicago Cubs drafted Kaepernick three years later in the 43rd round when the Nevada QB hadn't pitched in three years.
After his performance, Kaepernick tweeted, "87 on the first pitch.... Not too bad next year I'm goin to spring training to get ready! #sfgiants."
Kaepernick went on to tweet that he could've hit 90 mph, but his apparel got in the way.

He had previously tweeted that he hadn't picked up a baseball in seven years.
It's been a meteoric rise for Kaepernick, who replaced an injured Alex Smith halfway into the 2012 season and has been almost as revered as former 49ers QB Joe Montana ever since.
