Listening to Reeva Steenkamp's mother, maybe it's not such a coincidence that Oscar Pistorius has struck a friendship with notorious Czech fugitive Radovan Krejcir.
June Steenkamp, mother of the slain woman by Pistorius on Valentine's Day morning, 2013, appeared on TV ONE's Breakfast program in New Zealand, tvnz.co.nz reported. The elder Steenkamp still is promoting the book she wrote about her daughter, "Reeva: A Mother's Story," published in November last year.
June Steenkamp reiterated her feelings that Reeva's three-month relationship with Pistorius seemed strange because her daughter said the couple fought often so early into their romance.
But then June Steenkamp had an eyebrow-raising comment when she talked about what she said was Pistorius' penchant for guns.

"I didn't know about his mafia lifestyle, about the guns," June said on TV ONE.
Pistorius shot Steenkamp four times through their bathroom door, killing her. He said he mistook her for an intruder who had broken into their Pretoria, South Africa home.
The double-amputee Olympic sprinter is serving five years on a culpable homicide charge at Kgosi Mampuru II prison and is eligible for house arrest in August. Prosecutors, however, have won an appeal of the culpable homicide charge and will retry the case before the South Africa Court of Appeals and seek a murder conviction.
Judge Thokozile Masipa, who presided over Pistorius' trial, denied a motion by his defense team seeking a revocation of the granted appeal.
During the trial, testimony also revealed that Pistorius shot a gun out of a car without warning, as reported by CNN. He also shot a gun in a restaurant and spent R48,500 (about $4,000 U.S.) on firearms in an order that was cancelled after he shot Steenkamp, according to the Telegraph.
While in prison, Pistorius has struck a friendship with Krejcir, a reported mafia boss.
Steenkamp said her sole purpose in writing the book is to keep the memory of her daughter alive and to bring the issue of domestic violence to the forefront.
She also confirmed that she has no interest in following Pistorius' appeal trial.
"It won't bring my daughter back," she told TV ONE.
