Tonight at 8:40 p.m. at Coors Field in Colorado, the Los Angeles Dodgers (38-43) will face off against the Rockies (41-42) in the opening matchup of a three-game series. Tonight's game pits two of Major League Baseball's hottest hitters in Yasiel Puig (Dodgers) and Michael Cuddyer (Rockies) against each other. In the last seven games, Puig is hitting a ridiculous .500, and for the season he's batted .436 with seven home runs and 16 RBI.

Puig's ascendance has helped the Dodgers, who at one point looked like they were slogging through a lost season, make themselves relevant again in the National League West. They are 3.5 games behind the first-place Arizona Diamondbacks, and only two behind the second place Rockies.

"Puig's definitely brought an energy and a spark to us, and his skill level, I think, is a little more than anybody anticipated it would be," said Dodgers pitcher Stephen Fife. "It's been a pretty historic start."

Dodgers manager Don Mattingly acknowledged the team's recent success to reporters saying, "We've kind of got ourselves back to respectability here. We can see the front of the pack. Now we have to go take care of business and continue to win at a high rate."

He will try to stay hot against Rockies starter Roy Oswalt (0-2, 7.36 ERA) who is trying to keep his career alive in a tough environment; Coors Field is considered a hitters haven, which may be problematic for Oswalt, a fly-ball pitcher.

On the other side, Michael Cuddyer is having the best season of his career, with a .344 batting average, 14 home runs, 48 RBI, and a .983 OPS. Speaking of Cuddyer, Rockies manager Walt Weiss said, "It's been fun watching him do this. It's nice to see him get some recognition. He's a great player."

Cuddyer will have to face arguably the best pitcher in the game tonight, left-hander Clayton Kershaw (6-5, 2.08).
