Killer of Michael Jordan's Father Seeks New Trial; Blood Evidence Potentially Mishandled

Daniel Andre Green has gone down in history as the man responsible for the murder of Michael Jordan’s father in 1993. However, he and his legal counsel are fighting the North Carolina justice system for a new trial, on account of supposed new evidence.

The attorneys also claim that Green’s first trial, undergone in 1996, was illegitimate. They cite numerous allegations of false testimony, police misconduct, and jury misconduct in their argument.

Green’s story for two decades has been that he helped dispose of James Jordan’s body and moved his car, but did not murder him himself.

The prosecution’s case was also strong on blood evidence, but that, too, has been called into question in recent times. According to a report from the Charlotte Observer, Green’s case could be one of over 200 involving blood analysis that was originally mishandled by North Carolina’s crime lab in a 16 year span of time.

Daniel Green is guilty of crimes related to the death of James Jordan, but he is innocent of murder," Anita Earls, executive director of the Southern Coalition for Social Justice, which is representing Green, said in a statement. "His conviction is the direct result of numerous and egregious errors made during his original trial. He deserves a fair trial where an impartial jury can carefully consider all of the evidence in this case."

A full, worthwhile rundown of Green’s fight for a new trial is available over at the Charlotte Observer.
