Johnny Manziel Update: Cleveland Browns QB Broke The 'Trust' of His Teammates Last Season, Must Rebuild It [VIDEO]

When Johnny Manziel rejoins the Cleveland Browns following his discharge from rehab treatment, the second-year quarterback is going to have a lot of work cut out for himself rebuilding “trust.”

That’s according to the Browns’ offensive lineman Joe Thomas.

Cleveland Browns Already Giving Up on Johnny Football?

"You know, I think he lost probably a lot of trust among the guys on the team last year by the way he handled himself once he became the starter,” Thomas said, via ESPN Cleveland. “And I think he had a lot of time to reflect, I'm guessing, after the season was over by the comments he made in the media and by his actions, checking himself into rehab. ... I think those were really positive steps."

Thomas did acknowledge that “there's a chance Johnny comes back and he's a new person and he's rededicated to football, and he turns into the great quarterback that we expected when we drafted him in the first round."

Johnny Manziel Takes Break From Rehab To Hit The Links

It’s hard to argue with Thomas’ assessment that Manziel broke a lot of trust the organization and his teammates had in him. Manziel’s rookie year was one of constant off-field controversy. He was involved in a late night fight with a Browns fan in late November.

And then in December he went AWOL from a mandatory Browns walk-through the day before the team’s Week 17 game versus the Ravens. His disappearance was so inexplicable that team officials were actually dispatched to go and find Manziel. It was later learned that he had thrown a party the night before.
