"The Celtic Warrior" was at home in Dublin, Ireland during the WWE's European tour and called out Pendred, who boasts a 16-2-1 record in the Octagon with six knockouts.

Sheamus cut a promo and called Pendred a "pretender" and the UFC fighter swiftly responded on Twitter:

Updated Rumored Matches and Stipulations For WWE Extreme Rules 2015

Pendred's last fight in the Octagon saw him defeat Sean Spencer by unanimous decision on UFC Fight Night: McGregor vs. Silva on Jan. 18 in Boston.

Sheamus recently returned to WWE television on the night after WrestleMania with a mohawk and braids in his facial hair, portraying a new heel character.

"The Celtic Warrior" has been involved with Intercontinental Champion Daniel Bryan, Dolph Ziggler and Bad News Barrett since his comeback and it is rumored that he'll battle "The Show Off" at Extreme Rules on April 26 at the Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Ill., but the WWE hasn't confirmed it yet.

Sheamus' return made him a villain for the first time since 2011 and there are rumors that the WWE has big plans in store for him going forward in the squared circle.

It's unknown if anything will become of him calling out Pendred, but it was likely just a way for him to generate heel heat in front of the crowd.

Sheamus, 37, is a three-time WWE World Heavyweight Champion, two-time United States Champion, and the winner of the King of the Ring (2010) and Royal Rumble Match (2012) during his WWE career.
