After much fanfare and anticipation, Chicago Cubs third baseman Kris Bryant made his rookie debut at Wrigley Field on Friday afternoon.
Bryant is a reigning Minor League Player of the Year and a heavy favorite to take this year's NL Rookie of the Year award as well. However, Rome wasn't built in a day, and neither was Bryant's plaque in Cooperstown. He struggled mightily at the plate, whiffing three times and finishiing 0-4.
Only the most ridiculous of doomsayers would read too much into Bryant's bad day. It's still very possible he'll build a great career and this day will be an afterthought, even in spite of the anticipation attached to it.
