Melky Cabrera Tip Rumor: Fake Website Creator and Positive Drug Test Baseball Player, Now Is Being Accused of Being a Bad Tipper

Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Melky Cabrera might think about hiring a publicist.

Cabrera, most famous for his attempt to blame a phony website he created for a positive drug test in 2012, found a little more bad publicity Saturday when Deadspin.com reported about his less-than-generous tipping habits.

Deadspin.com posted a photo from a wait staff member at a Chili's restaurant in Port Lucie, Fla., from a tab for which Cabrera paid Friday night. Cabrera is rehabbing from a knee injury and was assigned to the Class A Dunedin Blue Jays, who were in town to play the Port St. Lucie Mets.

The tab was for $76.95, and Cabrera added a $10 tip. Dickson apparently knew who Cabrera was because her boyfriend, Hamilton Bennett, is a relief pitcher who she said just got promoted from the Port St. Lucie team to the Double-A Binghamton Mets.

Dickson posted a photo of the bill on her Facebook page (since taken down) with the comment:

"OK Melky Cabrera -- I know ur an (expletive for the term "donkey") by baseball standards... But don't be a cheap (expletive). You were signed for $8 million this year. I know you have to pay for your steroids, but you've dined in enough restaurants in this country to know how to tip properly .... #Stingy"

Cabrera, who had to serve a 50-game suspension as a member of the San Francisco Giants last season for his positive drug test, did sign a two-year, $16 million contract with the Blue Jays this season.

When Cabrera first found out about the positive test, he reportedly created a phony website that included a phony product that he blamed. Major League Baseball was forced to travel to the Dominican Republic to prove that the fictitious company of the website didn't exist.

Deadspin.com did add a link to Fordors.com, which talks about Dominican law that requires a 10 percent service charge added to the restaurant bill and it's customary to add 5 percent to 10 percent to that total.

So Cabrera may have thought the $10 was on top of a nearly $8 tip. It does seem to be small for someone earning $8 million, but there's always the question of whether she delivered good service.
