Washington Redskins Trade Rumors: No Plans To Draft QB, Expecting To Deal Fifth Pick?

Picking near the top of the NFL draft seems like a dream scenario, but it can also be incredibly stressful for NFL teams. A high draft pick that busts can set a franchise back for years, and there is always the tough decision between drafting one highly coveted player or trading away a high pick for a bountiful haul.

Marcus Mariota A Safer Draft Pick Than Jameis Winston?

Washington finds themselves in just such a position heading into tonight's draft. They have repeatedly insisted that they will take the best player available with the fifth pick, even if it is a quarterback. However, now they may be looking to trade down and acquire more picks in the process, according to NFL.com.

"There's no question that the Redskins would like to trade down. The question is whether or not they're going to get value in doing that," said NFL Media's Albert Breer. "They have seven picks right now over the next three days. Scot McCloughan said himself on Monday that he'd like to get that number closer to 10. The problem is the way this draft shakes out, you don't want to drop out of the top 15. They're limited to as how far they'd be willing to drop down and they'd still like to fortify those lines of scrimmage."

Peyton Manning Not Done After 2015?

Washington recently picked up RG3's fifth-year option on his rookie deal, so they are clearly willing to roll the dice with him at quarterback. They may also feel like the other positions of need that they want to fill will be available after pick five.

If that is the case, then the team would be wise to move down in the draft and acquire extra picks, as the roster has several holes that need filling before they can hope to contend for the postseason once again.
