Alex Rodriguez knows plenty about public apologies and he was quick to forgive former teammate Jorge Posada when he expressed his regret for comments he previously made about the New York Yankees slugger.
Rodriguez, who did plenty of apologizing himself after he served a season-long suspension in 2014 for his connection to the Biogenesis clinic and performance-enhancing drugs, touched on Posada's recent comments.
Posada, who played catcher for the Yankees from 1995-2011, recently said in a television interview that Rodriguez and Roger Clemens -- his friends and former teammates -- shouldn't be considered for the Hall of Fame due to their tainted pasts with PEDs.
Rodriguez won the World Series with Posada in 2009 and was asked to share his thoughts on the matter just days later.
"I consider Jorgie a friend," Rodriguez said, according to ESPN. "Jorgie's always worn his heart on his sleeve and that's fine. He was a great teammate and a great player for a long time. What I remember the most is sharing and winning a championship in '09. I have nothing but good memories."
Posada apologized for his comments afterward, saying the television reporter "cornered" him into making them.
Rodriguez accepted the apology and appeared ready to move on.
"OK. Apology accepted. Much appreciated," Rodriguez said.
Rodriguez revealed that he received a text from Posada after the comments and he said there will be no hard feelings between the two.
"That's a private matter," Rodriguez said of the message. "I'll keep that private. I'm fine."
Rodriguez, who turns 40 in July, is hitting .250 this season with nine homers and 21 RBI as the Yankees have jumped out to a 21-15 record in 2015 and own a one-game lead over the Tampa Bay Rays atop the American League East standings.
Tampa Bay took three of four from New York this past week.
Rodriguez and Posada are likely to cross paths on May 24 when the Yankees retire the number of Bernie Williams and reveal his plaque in Monument Park.
