Colin Kaepernick Trolled on Facebook: Fans Diss QB Over Fundraiser Appearance? [VIDEO]

Sometimes, Colin Kaepernick's hostility toward naysayers could be justified.

The San Francisco 49ers quarterback was criticized for jumping on a random author of a tweet that made a snarky comment about Kaepernick's workouts not helping him find open receivers.

No excuses for Colin Kaepernick with acquisition of Reggie Bush and Torrey Smith?

The Reno Gazette-Journal reported on an instance of Kaepernick doing a good deed for Nevada, state home of his alma mater, the University of Nevada, in which he was hammered by random social media posters.

Kaepernick is scheduled to come to Carson City, Nev., to be the keynote speaker at the annual Governor's Dinner.

Colin Kaepernick hostility toward random tweeter a sign of pressure he's under?

"My initial thought was, 'Well, that's a nice little story; a Wolf Pack legend is coming back to Northern Nevada to raise some much-needed money for current Nevada student-athletes,'" the Gazette-Journal's Chris Murray reported.

He said people took to Facebook to disagree. According to the RGJ:

"Are they gonna widen the door frames to accommodate his head?" one person wrote on the story announcing his appearance at the Governor's Dinner.

"Nobody cares. He always sucked!" another wrote after throwing in some unprintable words first.

"Craperneck," another posted.

"He had his 10 min of fame now its someone else's turn," a grammatically illiterate person wrote.

"Worse quarterback in the history of the game they call football," chimed in another.

Murray said other posts were not printable in the newspaper. It was unclear whether he was referring to the Gazette-Journal's Facebook page as there were no comments on its Facebook page referring to the Kaepernick article.

He said that an equal number of positive comments were posted, but the ratio to good and bad is puzzling for a story that is purely positive.

"Think about it: Kaepernick is taking a day out of his offseason schedule to raise money for his alma mater," Murray said. "There's no downside to this story. Except people make a downside to it. Why all the vitriol?

"...This isn't to say Kaepernick's perfect. Since he moved on from Reno, he's been prickly with the media and crafted a social media persona that makes him seem like an egomaniac (which I don't believe him to be given my time covering him). Those branding decisions haven't done Kaepernick any favors.

"(Sidenote: I wonder if his social media persona is a result of 'the haters.' Kaepernick obviously reads what's written about him; he has sparred with people on Twitter and 'favorited' their comments ripping him.)."
