Amir Khan Next Fight: Big Mouth Has Him Close To Landing Floyd Mayweather Jr. Bout? [VIDEO]

Amir Khan believes his constant demands for a fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr. this September are finally starting to work. According to Khan, he was on the receiving end of a profanity-laced tirade spewed by Floyd Mayweather Sr., when he once again demanded a fight be made for this fall.

"I spoke to Floyd Senior the other night. He thinks Floyd can beat me easily, so I said 'alright, if that's the case, then let's get a fight made,'" Khan said. "Then he went all crazy on me and there was lots of swearing. I've got a video, I've not posted it yet, but I am going to.

"I did get under his skin. He knows I am the guy to maybe beat his son. He doesn't like the fight between me and Floyd because he knows I could cause him big problems. We are getting very close to a fight, I hope."

Khan's stock was rising before a recent victory over Chris Algieri, which some expected to be a showcase but wound up being a gritty, narrow victory. Khan blamed overtraining afterward, as well as surprise at how drastically Algieri changed his style for the fight. He has since implored fans to shrug it off and expect a different fighter vs. Mayweather, one that more closely resembled the man who took apart Devon Alexander.

"I am going to do what I did in the fight against Devon Alexander," he said. "Against Algieri we tried to change it up a little too much but then again you can't really take a lot from the fight as he came to win and he's really hard to beat.

"I am probably going to go back to what I do best, improve a few things, I have seen the video of when I fought Chris Algieri but like I said I am only getting better and I am in a great position at the moment."

Khan saying they are very close may be a smokescreen though. Mayweather has recently offered to fight Oscar De La Hoya if he came out of retirement, while Mayweather Promotions CEO Leonard Ellerbe said earlier this week Mayweather won't announce anything until he is ready.

"Floyd will determine who he fights and when he fights and no one will rush his decision," Ellerbe said. "He'll make up his mind who he is fighting, if he is fighting, and we'll go from there. And that decision will be made not one day before he's ready to make it."
