Yoenis Cespedes (15) and Nick Castellanos (9) both hit homers for Detroit in its win on Saturday. Castellanos had three RBI in the victory as well.
Mookie Betts drove in Blake Swihart in the fifth inning for the only Boston run of the afternoon. It was Betts' 46th RBI on the campaign.
Shane Greene (4-7, 6.52 ERA) toes the rubber for the Tigers in the series finale while the Red Sox counter with Eduardo Rodriguez, and he is 5-3 with a 4.64 ERA on the season.
Greene gave up five runs on six hits in 4.2 innings against the Seattle Mariners in his last outing.
Rodriguez, meanwhile, is coming in off of a forgettable outing where he yielded seven runs on six hits and lasted just 1.2 frames.
Both of these teams have ground to makeup for in the standings as Boston and Detroit are both on the outside looking in on the playoff picture right now.
The Red Sox sit in last place in the American League East, 12 games behind the first-place New York Yankees and 9.5 spots out of a wild-card position.
The Tigers are third in the AL Central, 10.5 games behind the division-leading Kansas City Royals and four games out in the wild-card hunt.
