Green Bay Packers Rumors: How Jordy Nelson Knee Injury Will Impact Rest Of His Teammates In Fantasy Football [VIDEO]

The Packers suffered a serious blow on Sunday if wide receiver Jordy Nelson’s injury is what they fear—a torn ACL. If so, Nelson’s 2015 is over before it began. For fantasy owners, that’s an easy top-10 wide receiver that is out of the question for their draft day.

Green Bay’s passing game is the focal point of their offense, and Nelson is the most important target. Here’s how his injury will impact the rest of the Packers for fantasy.

Green Bay Packers Fantasy Preview

Aaron Rodgers, QB (ADP: 10)

Rodgers is arguably the best QB in football, so his stock shouldn’t tumble too much, but not having Nelson dings it slightly. The Packers' passing game will still be effective, but the decreased arsenal may lead them to lean on RB Eddie Lacy a bit more. In any case, Nelson was far and away Rodgers’ most-targeted pass catcher, so he’ll have to develop a rhythm with a new face or two while the remaining incumbents see their roles grow.

With Nelson out, Rodgers falls behind Colts QB Andrew Luck in the fantasy pecking order.

Randall Cobb, WR (ADP: 21)

Cobb seems like the biggest winner in this situation, if there’s a such thing as a winner in an injury scenario. Cobb was already a WR1 for fantasy purposes, and he’s going to see his targets shoot up. The question will be whether or not Cobb stays healthy. Last season he did, and he had a fine season, with 91 catches for 1,287 yards and 12 touchdowns (all career-highs). If he can give the Packers 16 games again, he’s a dark horse to be the top wide receiver in football fantasy-wise.

Eddie Lacy, RB (ADP: 4)

Lacy was already a top pick, but no Nelson gives him a clearer edge over Jamaal Charles (KC) and Le’Veon Bell (PIT, suspended two games). Rodgers is down to one known commodity in the red zone in the passing game, so he’ll likely turn to Lacy’s bruising running more often. Lacy put up huge numbers last season despite being used less frequently than other RBs. Expect that to change.

Davante Adams, WR (ADP: 125)

Adams is a sleeper no more. The second-year wide receiver was a sneaky pick for owners, especially in PPR leagues, who were aware of him last season. He came out of college with freakish numbers; in his second year at Fresno State, Adams hauled in 131 passes for 1,719 yards and 24 touchdowns. Those are straight video game numbers. As a rookie he was decent, catching 38 passes and scoring three touchdowns.

He’s going to get plenty more targets now, and he’s got a track record of catching everything thrown his way. At No. 125 off the board, he offers a ton of value, but his stock will rise as the season gets closer.

Ty Montgomery, WR (ADP: N/A)

Montgomery was a third-round pick this year out of Stanford. Green Bay is fond of three-receiver sets, and he is next up behind Adams. He never put up 1,000 yards at Stanford, and last year only averaged 9.9 yards per catch, so picking him as a flier is purely a belief that Rodgers will make him matter. And he might.
