Karim Benzema took to Twitter to quash any speculation of a move from the Santiago Bernabeu on Monday, but Real Madrid rekindled that speculation Friday. Club president Florentino Perez has decided Madrid needs a major signing before the window slams shut, per Fichajes.net.
That major signing is Robert Lewandowski.

The Bayern Munich striker is seen as an immediate upgrade for a club looking to ail its scoring woes. Real opened their campaign with a rudderless 0-0 draw with Sporting Gijon, mounting pressure on newly appointed manager Rafa Benitez.
Lewandowski would alleviate that pressure, but also push Benzema out the door.

Arsenal would be the greatest beneficiaries of a potential deal. The Gunners have desperately attempted to acquire Benzema, but to no avail. Unfortunately for Real Madrid, their pursuit of Lewandowski will learn a similar fate.
The Polish striker has zero intention of leaving Munich, and is dedicated to improving on his form.
"I don't believe the fans have already seen the best of me," he said, per the Daily Mail. "I can, and will, be even better this season. I'm certain of that. It's not always easy of course, as there are so many factors involved. It's vital we play well as a team. That's the most important thing.
"It would be useless to me personally if I was to finish top scorer, but we only come second in the Bundesliga and go out of the Champions League in the last sixteen."
As is the case with most big-name transfers, speculation never converts to reality. The Benzema-Lewandowski saga will be no different.
