Amir Khan Next Fight: Manny Pacquiao 'Has To Happen' According To Respected Boxing Commentator [VIDEO]

Amir Khan is clamoring for big fights, and since Floyd Mayweather Jr. has spurned him twice, he has Manny Pacquiao on the brain. Khan has dreams of facing Pacquiao in Dubai, and longtime boxing commentator Bob Sheridan doesn't see why the fight shouldn't happen.

"It's an interesting fight and Amir Khan really deserved the shot at Floyd Mayweather and he's not getting that, so it will be a big payday fight if Arum has something tied up in the Middle East with one of the countries over there," Sheridan told On The Ropes Boxing.

Plans would be difficult to nail down for this fight for several reasons, however. Khan fights for Al Haymon's Premier Boxing Champions, while Pacquiao is promoted by Top Rank CEO Bob Arum. Haymon and Arum are embroiled in a lawsuit currently, so anything short of a Mayweather vs. Pacquiao-sized collaboration is unlikely.

Pacquiao is also coming off surgery for a torn labrum, which affects his availability, as well as his ability inside the ring. Sheridan noted Pacquiao's shoulder, and age, as potential red flags when it comes to predicting how the fight would go.

"It's very hard to predict what will happen in that fight because I don't know how good Manny's gonna be, based on the fact that he injured his shoulder and he's put on another year of age now. I just think that it's a very competitive fight and one of those fights that has to happen to see," Sheridan said.

Pacquiao (57-6-2, 38 KO) remains one of the highest-profile boxers in the world, but the later stages of his career have been uneven. He has lost three of his last six fights-it's worth noting that the first loss, to Timothy Bradley in 2012, is considered one of the worst robberies in boxing history-and hasn't scored a knockout since stopping Miguel Cotto in 2009.

"Manny Pacquiao is like Floyd Mayweather, he's at the tail end of his career and when you have a tendency to think of fighters, you always think of them in their prime and you begin to see little things that Manny's having problems with, but he'll be aggressive and he'll be in the best possible shape."
