Daily Fantasy Football Strategy 2015: Week 2 Best Plays, Stay Aways, And Cheap Bargains For Thursday Night Football

Tonight’s Week 2 Thursday night football matchup is between the Broncos and the Chiefs at Kansas City. While that might seem like a fantasy bonanza, both teams sport strong defenses that could limit some of the star players. Here, you’ll find the stars you should play, who to stay away from, and some real deals in the bargain bin.

Feel Free To Play

Demaryius Thomas, WR, Broncos (FanDuel/$8,500, Draft Kings/$8,400): Thomas is a stud, and even though he costs a lot, he’ll rarely turn in a total bomb. Kansas City’s pass rush is tough and may give Denver’s offensive line problems, but they were in the bottom-10 of the NFL against No. 1 WRs last season.

5 Star Players To Stay Away From In Daily Fantasy Football Week 2

Emmanuel Sanders, WR, Broncos (FanDuel/$8,000, Draft Kings/$7,600): It’s tougher to count on a TD for Sanders, but like Thomas, he is going to see plenty of targets from Peyton Manning. Sanders barely missed a long score last week vs. a tough Baltimore defense. Denver’s receivers will be mostly matchup-proof all year.

Travis Kelce, TE, Chiefs (FanDuel/$6,600, Draft Kings/$5,100): There are cheaper options you can snap up, but if you like the name TEs, Kelce is a safe play. He exploded last week for two touchdowns, and while Denver will be ready for that, he’s good enough to produce even if he’s the focal point of the defense.

Best Draft Kings Bargains At Each Position For Week 2

Denver D/ST (FanDuel/$4,200, Draft Kings/$2,800): The Broncos are for real, and even if Chiefs QB Alex Smith is super careful and doesn’t turn the ball over, Kansas City doesn’t have the weapons to score very much.

Be Careful

Jamaal Charles, RB, Chiefs (FanDuel/$8,800, Draft Kings/$7,600): Charles is too great of a player to be a flat-out stay-away, but he comes close in this matchup. Denver completely stifled Justin Forsett this week, and has one of the league’s best fronts. They will be a brutal run D to go against all year, and at Charles’ prohibitive price it’s probably best to go after a cheaper option.

Peyton Manning, QB, Broncos (FanDuel/$8,200, Draft Kings/$7,500): A part of me expects a three-touchdown bounce back for Manning after he looked totally out of sync against Baltimore. Another part thinks he looked his age (39), and that his offensive line isn’t built to handle pass rushers like Kansas City brings to the table.

Stay Away

C.J. Anderson, RB, Broncos (FanDuel/$8,000, Draft Kings/$6,700): Anderson is expected to play despite a toe injury, and while it doesn’t seem serious, the Broncos probably won’t give him a full workload with the short turnaround from Sunday to Thursday. Based off what he did last week, it’s best to avoid him and let him prove he should cost as much as he does.

Jeremy Maclin, WR, Chiefs (FanDuel/$7,100, Draft Kings/$6,500): Maclin is the No. 1 WR yes, but Alex Smith failed to connect with a WR for a touchdown for the entirety of last season. That’s insane, and it continued last Sunday. Maclin is a quality receiver, and he’s sure to break that streak, but it isn’t going to be this week with Broncos CB Aqib Talib draped all over him.

Bargain Bin

Ronnie Hillman, RB, Broncos (FanDuel/$5,100, Draft Kings/$5,600): Hillman is a surprisingly effective player when given the chance. He was tearing it up last year before he got hurt, which opened the door for Anderson to become the bell cow. Hillman will likely out-touch Anderson tonight, and has big play potential. I won’t be playing either back, but Hillman has value.

Kansas City D/ST (FanDuel/$4,400, Draft Kings/$2,900): Justin Houston may have a field day with this offensive line.
