Sting's first quest for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship may have cost him his career.

"The Vigilante" competed in just his second pay-per-view match ever in a WWE ring against Seth Rollins at Night of Champions Sunday night in Houston, Texas, and he suffered what could be a significant injury, according to Dave Meltzer of The Wrestling Observer.

5 Things To Watch For On Monday Night RAW, Latest Rumors

Details are sketchy, but it's believed that Sting injured his neck during his match with Rollins and Meltzer said he believes it could be a career-threatening injury, Wrestlingheadlines.com reports. It's unknown exactly when Sting hurt himself, if the story holds true, but it appears as though it occurred when "The Architect" delivered a power bomb onto him into the top turnbuckle. It's one of Rollins' signature moves.

Meltzer described the injury as significant and added "it was serious and to his neck" on his radio show, but the WWE hasn't revealed anything regarding the ailment yet. Rollins is familiar with accidentally injuring opponents in the ring as he broke John Cena's nose during their United States Championship bout on Monday Night RAW in July with an errant knee.

7 Possible Matches For WWE Hell In A Cell

The WWE banned Seth Rollins' Curb Stomp finisher due to it being too dangerous, so it will be interesting to see if the Buckle Bomb also gets pulled from his repertoire now that another huge name may have been injured. Sting was wrestling just his second match with the company and it was the former WCW and TNA icon's first contest in six months.

Sting fell to Triple H at WrestleMania in March and was held out of storylines until being brought back for his feud with Rollins in late August. "The Vigilante" is a six-time WCW World Heavyweight Champion and a four-time TNA Heavyweight Champion, but he was booked to lose via pinfall to Rollins in his first attempt at capturing the WWE's biggest title.

Despite the injury rumors, it is expected that Sting will be on RAW this week to address the loss, barring any changes.
