TMZ is reporting Lamar Odom spiraled into a world of "hardcore" drugs during a wild summer in Hollywood where he spent upwards of $800 per day on crack cocaine after the NBA season had ended.
According to TMZ, Odom spent as much as $1,000 per day fueling his growing addiction, which picked up speed after he and his reality TV wife, Khloe Kardashian, separated in May and he began living in a Hollywood hotel.
During those days, the website reports Odom used his Roosevelt Hotel room like a "flophouse," with as many as 7 or 8 strangers, all drug abusers, surrounding him and freely coming in and out of the room.
Several outlets reported Thursday that Odom had checked into a drug and alcohol rehab center, but by the end of the day sources close to him were disputing those reports. TMZ previously reported Odom checked into a drug treatment center last summer, but abruptly bolted after just three weeks at the facility and despite his wife having hired an armed guard to stand outside his room in hopes of keeping him there.
After playing last season with the Los Angeles Clippers, Odom is now a free agent and not many teams have expressed interest in picking him up as all of his problems have become more public.
Earlier this week, one NBA GM told TMZ Odom has grown "beyond toxic" and he fears his NBA career may now be over.
