The Washington Redskins have no plans of benching struggling quarterback Robert Griffin III and turning to his backup Kirk Cousins, according to The SportingNews.com.
In the wake of the team's 0-2 start and the second-year quarterback's even more alarming first-half struggles, coach Mike Shanahan was asked if he felt the team may have rushed RGIII back too quickly from his off season knee surgery and might now be thinking of giving him more time to recuperate.
"No, no," Shanahan told the Sporting News. "We've got a lot of confidence in Robert. And as I mentioned, any time you start out a little bit slow and we're down as many points as we've been down and we get to a hurry-up, passing-dominated two-minute attack a little bit earlier than we'd like to, you probably put people in the toughest situation you can. You want to win the game. You've got to get touchdowns quickly."
Also at issue is Griffin's apparent inability to run the ball the way he did in his rookie season, essentially rendering the Redskins' pass action oriented offense ineffective. It's forced Griffin to play more as a traditional pocket passer and after throwing 20 touchdowns and just five interceptions all of last season he already has 5 and just 3 thus thus far in 2013.
The Redskins defense has also struggled mightily, allowing an average of 36 points in losses to the Eagles and Packers.
