UFC News: Conor McGregor Details Handicap Prior to UFC 189

UFC featherweight interim champion Conor McGregor is never at a loss for words and everyone knows that such has gotten him into a lot of heat.

In this case however, his constant rant of fighting through injury and competing with technically one leg could serve as an inspiration.

“Fourteen weeks before the fight I tore 80 percent of my ACL,” says McGregor. “I could barely walk, I could barely kick.”

It had already been an open secret that the brash Irishman faced Chad Mendes at UFC 189 with a handicap, something that he magnificently covered up. McGregor took on Mendes with a torn ACL at the time, a reason why he did not have any live streaming of his training.

With the claim, many see it as the reason why Mendes was able to take him down repeatedly until the latter failed to connect on a guillotine choke hold that was all the opening McGregor needed.

His revelation is indeed commendable and he has also used the same to lash out at Aldo.

The Brazilian fighter withdrew from that match due to a rib injury sustained during training, providing Mendes an opportunity to fight at UFC 189. Mendes rued his loss and blamed it on lack of preparation since he was informed only three weeks prior of the said fight.

While all that is in the history books now, it will be interesting how Aldo and McGregor will go next month. Both fighters are set to get it on this Dec. 12 at the MGM Grand Garden in Las Vegas.

Both Aldo and McGregor are bitter rivals so this is one clash UFC fans will dare not miss.
