There are many factors that contributed to AJ Lee's WWE retirement, but a fear of wardrobe malfunctions may have topped the list.
Shortly after WrestleMania 31, Lee revealed that she was hanging up her wrestling boots and moving on from the WWE. It was initially a shock to see such a promising career come to an end, but given the issues between her husband, CM Punk, and Vince McMahon's organization, it made sense for the two sides to amicably split.

Punk walked out on the WWE in January 2014 due to plenty of pent up frustrations, which he revealed while holding nothing back on Colt Cabana's podcast last November. "The Best in the World's" comments particularly struck a chord with WWE doctor Chris Amann, who Punk claimed misdiagnosed him on several occasions.
Dr. Amann swiftly responded with a lawsuit against Punk and Cabana for defamation. Lee promptly left the WWE shortly after scoring a victory over the Bella Twins at the biggest show of the year while teaming up with Paige. Now, she's working with the PAWs charity in Chicago helping dogs find homes.

While all of the terrible issues with her husband and the WWE led to her departure, she revealed that she had a major fear when picking out her outfits to wear to the ring -- the nip slip.
Lee was well-prepared to fight off the possibility of being exposed on live television, but she also said she "purposely" chose to wear items that people would find "visually offensive." Some of these garments made her shriek in fear about possibly exposing herself.
"Ah, the dreaded nip slip," Lee told WomenWriteAboutComics.com. "The ever-looming dark cloud of a compromising HDTV screen grab. Never happened to me, but I was also a wizard with double sided tape and often chose a safe bet of a neckline. The key was really to design an outfit with movement in mind."
Lee's qualms weren't unfounded, as Divas such as The Bella Twins, Kailtyn, Naomi and Natalya have all had wardrobe malfunctions throughout their careers.
Now that she's retired from the squared circle, the three-time Divas Champion no longer has to fear the dreaded nip slip.
