Dallas Cowboys News: 'Boys Wave Bye Bye To Brandon Weeden To Make Room For Tony Romo [VIDEO]

The Cowboys announced early this afternoon that they released back-up quarterback Brendon Weeden.

The release is sort of a shock considering the fact that the Cowboys do not have a roster filled with quarterbacks behind Tony Romo.

Although Weeden hasn't set the world on fire with his play, it's still a head scratcher that the Cowboys would let him go at this late date considering the fact that Romo is often injured. But according to cowboys.com, Weeden had to be cut to make room for Romo's return Sunday versus the Dolphins.

"Cowboys officials said as recently as Tuesday morning that they were still determining what to do with their quarterback depth, but it appears that they'll go forward with just Romo and Matt Cassel at the position. The roster currently has two vacant spots, as the Cowboys also released Keith Smith earlier this week."

Weeden was a first round draft choice of the Browns and was ineffective at quarterback and would eventually be replaced by another first round draft choice, Johnny Manziel.

As a starter for the Cowboys, Weeden threw for 666 yards, one touchdown, two interceptions, but never won a game as the starter, although, when Romo was hurt, it was his touchdown pass in the Philadelphia game which lead the Cowboys to victory.

Now, the Cowboys only back-up is Cassel who hasn't won a game as the starter either which is why the Cowboys are eager to bring back Romo. Despite being 2-7, the Cowboys are only a few games out of first and still have a chance to make a run with a healthy Romo; that is if he can stay healthy.
