David Price Twitter Rant: 'Save It Nerds' Tweet Lands Rays Ace In Hot Water [PHOTO], Has Controversy With Big Papi David Ortiz [VIDEO]

Reigning American League Cy Young Award winner David Price was angry after receiving the loss in Game 2 of the team's American League Division Series with the Boston Red Sox, and took to Twitter to share his thoughts on two TBS announcers who were critical of him, referring to them as "nerds."

Price allowed seven earned runs on nine hits through seven innings in the loss as Tampa Bay went down 2-0 in the best-of-five series with the Red Sox. The Rays now need to sweep the next three games of the series, including a Game 5 in Fenway Park if necessary.

Price vented his frustrations on Twitter following the loss Saturday night and also vowed that he'd bounce back via the social media site and even tweeted all of the accolades he's earned throughout his career, including last year's Cy Young Award, his three All-Star game appearances and his two Player's Choice Awards as proof that he can comeback when faced with adversity. Price eventually apologized through his Twitter account for his actions following the game:

ESPN reports that Price is expected to publicly acknowledge the controversy and apologize, according to Tampa Bay Rays officials. Price's girlfriend, Tiffany Nicole, got into some Twitter controversy of her own at the game as she had some harsh words for Boston fans at Fenway Park:

During Saturday's game, when David Ortiz belted his second homer of the night, he watched it go out from home plate but later said that he was just looking to see if the ball was fair. Price took exception to that, which could have also fueled his post-game rage.

"As soon as he hit it, I saw it, I knew it was fair," Price told ESPN. "Run."

Price's girlfriend also took to Twitter to acknowledge her frustration with Ortiz's actions, "Wow he pimped the crap out of that homerun. #KeepItClassyBoston," Tiffany Nicole said on her @MsKansasState account.

Ortiz said it was a non-issue after the game and that he and Price smoothed things over.

"It's over," Ortiz said per ESPN. "We talked. It doesn't matter how we got to talk, but we did. We talked."

Rays manager Joe Maddon didn't want to think too far into the incident, especially with a player who was just frustrated due to his competitive nature.

"I don't want to take one isolated incident and try to turn it into something, Maddon said, according to ESPN. "I think that's something we do nationally a little bit too often, too. So I don't want to take one isolated incident and try to make more of it than it actually is."

Price won the Cy Young Award last year with a 20-5 record and 2.56 ERA, but fell off a bit this year when he pitched to a 10-8 record with a 3.33 ERA.

Boston and Tampa Bay take the field for Game 3 at Tropicana Field in Florida Monday at 6:07 p.m. ET.
