Colin Kaepernick Update: Chip Kelly's Hire Already Adds Value To QB's Jersey, Bank Account [VIDEO]

Within hours of the 49ers' coaching hire announcement, Chip Kelly made the Colin Kaepernick name more valuable.

And in less than four months, Kelly likely will have made Kaepernick's name more valuable by about $12 million.

Left For Dead Last Month, Colin Kaepernick Suddenly Hot Commodity

Kaepernick's jersey, which was discounted from $99.99 to $74.99 in December on the 49ers' online store, shortly after he was declared out for the season with a labrum tear in his non-throwing shoulder that required surgery, was back to selling for $99.99 shortly after Kelly's hire as the 49ers' new head coach was made public, according to CBS Sports.

And now it seems to be a foregone conclusion that Kaepernick will remain on the San Francisco roster past April 1 to collect his $14 million salary for 2016.

Colin Kaepernick Throws Shade At Jim Tomsula

Kaepernick was considered all but gone from San Francisco after a disastrous 2015 in which he was benched after eight games and continued the regression of his quarterback play that began in 2014 under former coach Jim Harbaugh. But it's believed that if anybody can revive the former Nevada quarterback's career, it's the former Eagles coach, whose quarterbacks performed better with him than without him.

"Nick Foles threw 40 touchdown passes and 12 interceptions in 21 starts for Kelly in 2013 and 2014," ESPN reported. "Traded in the offseason to the St. Louis Rams, he bombed and was eventually benched in favor of backup Case Keenum.

"Mark Sanchez completed nearly 65 percent of his passes under Kelly during the past two seasons after arriving in Philadelphia with a career completion rate of 55 percent. And in the second half of last season, Sam Bradford -- a career 58.7-percent passer before this season -- completed 68.2 percent of his passes in Kelly's scheme. In other words, Bradford was the NFL's third-most accurate passer after Week 8 last season."

And while Kaepernick showed he still is a work in progress, "it's hard to imagine an offense or a coach that will put him in a better position to do what comes naturally than the 49ers' new arrangement" with Kelly as coach, ESPN added.

If the arrangement works, who knows how much that will be worth to Kaepernick and his jersey.
