2016 Australian Open: Serena Williams Continues To Chase History [VIDEO]

Serena Williams will try to chase history when she faces Angelique Kerber in the women’s final of the 2016 Australian Open.

Kerber advanced to the finals after defeating Johanna Konta, 7-5, 6-2. The seventh seeded player will try to defeat Williams, who will be out to tie Steffi Graf with 22 majors (second most all time).

A win by Williams will place her two behind the all-time mark held by Margaret Smith Court. Williams advanced Thursday, when she fended off Agnieszka Radwanska, 6-0, 6-4.

“I’m really excited to be in another final -- it kind of blows my mind right now,” Williams said via Fox Sports after her win last Thursday.

Kerber enters the final a big underdog, as Williams has won all of the Australian Open finals she has been in, the most recent coming last year when the world No. 1 beat Maria Sharapova.

“I’m really looking forward to taking this challenge and I must play my best tennis,” Kerber said.

Above are all of the female winners since 2005.
