Dallas Cowboys Rumors: Jerry Jones' Reliance On High-Risk Players Destroying Team [VIDEO]

The Dallas Cowboys didn't exactly have choir boys when they won their three Super Bowls in the 1990s. But that strategy isn't exactly working out for Jerry Jones now.

Former Cowboys running back Joseph Randle was arrested for the fifth time in 17 months -- the latest charges being aggravated battery, possession of hallucinogens/marijuana and criminal damage to property -- according to ESPN.

Cowboys Interest In Johnny Manziel Not Dead Yet

That comes two days after Dallas learned of defensive end Randy Gregory's four-game suspension for violating the NFL's league substance abuse policy.

And that comes shortly after reports of Greg Hardy, who returned to the league this season after missing 2015 due to a domestic violence issue, being perpetually late for team meetings and causing numerous distractions during the season as well.

RB Matt Forte Would Be Key Addition To Cowboys

Jones made his bed; now he has to sleep in it.

"Jerry Jones has always placed a greater premium on ability than character," the Dallas Morning News' Rick Gosselin wrote. "Charles Haley, Alonzo Spellman, Dimitrius Underwood, Quincy Carter, Ryan Leaf, Terrell Owens, Tank Johnson, Pacman Jones, Dez Bryant, Joseph Randle, Greg Hardy and, finally, Gregory were all character risks who were welcomed with open arms at Valley Ranch.

"Haley and Bryant have been the success stories -- but not without a few bumps in the road of their own. The rest have not been as successful and some have been outright failures. The Cowboys have not won a Super Bowl since Haley left and have barely been competitive for Lombardi Trophies in most seasons. The Cowboys have only three playoff victories over the last 20 years to show for this parade of players onto the field with character flags."

The Super Bowl-winning Cowboys had the likes of Troy Aikman and Emmitt Smith on the roster. Both are considered stronger leaders than anyone on the Dallas roster now, even the reserved Tony Romo.

Where boisterous Michael Irvin thrived during the Cowboys' Super Bowl seasons, boisterous Dez Bryant still is known more for his theatrics than his play.

Jones has been trying to take shortcuts in rebuilding a Super Bowl champion by signing talented-but-troubled players. He's forgotten that those players need even stronger character guys on the roster to keep them in line.
