Boxing News 2016: Amir Khan Explains Decision to Face Canelo Alvarez Instead of Kell Brook, Danny Garcia

Amir Khan clarified that he is not ducking Kell Brook and Danny Garcia, pointing out that facing Canelo Alvarez for the World Boxing Council middleweight title is the best option at this point of his career.

Khan told Fight Hub TV that the offer to face Alvarez despite the disparity in weight is too good to pass up. The British boxing superstar agreed to fight at 155 pounds for the first time in his career, knowing that a victory against Canelo will push his career into a new level.

"This opportunity came and it's such a massive opportunity," Khan said of the offer to face Canelo via Bad Left Hook. "This opportunity comes once in a lifetime. To pull off this upset and beat him would probably be one of the biggest boxing news stories in the world."

While most analysts and fans are already counting him out, Khan is determined to prove his doubters wrong. The 29-year-old Briton added that the fight against Brook and Garcia will always be there for him after facing Canelo.

"So when this came, I thought, I'm going to grab it with both hands and do this, and shut up the doubters as well," Khan continued. "Then I can go back down and face Garcia and if that Kell Brook fight's there, do that as well."

Khan, who has won in his last five fights, was linked to a possible fight with Brook before agreeing to face Alvarez. The rematch against Garcia, who defeated the Bolton native in 2012, was also mentioned after the 27-year-old Philadelphia native won the WBC welterweight title via unanimous decision win against Robert Guerrero in January.

Khan also took a swipe at Brook, saying that the 29-year-old Briton, who holds a perfect 35-0 record with 24 knockouts, is not at the same level as him.

"My name's been talked about amongst the likes Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao. Why should I be worried about fighters like Kell Brook?" Khan said. "To be honest, I don't think they're on my level yet."
