New York Knicks News: Coach Kurt Rambis Not Overly Flattering Toward Possible Successor Luke Walton [VIDEO]

As if Kurt Rambis was supposed to give a glowing recommendation.

The interim New York Knicks coach was asked to comment on the job potential Knicks coaching candidate Luke Walton did serving as interim coach for the Golden State Warriors when Steve Kerr was recovering from back surgery, according to the New York Post.

Unfair Criticism May Lead To Phil Jackson Quitting New York Knicks

The Warriors won their first 21 games and went 39-4 under Walton while Kerr was out.

Rambis, who was 5-9 prior to the game against Golden State since taking over for Derek Fisher, chose his words about Walton carefully.

Luke Walton May Not Want Lakers Job Even If L.A. Fires Byron Scott

"He just continued to perpetuate what was going on,'' Rambis said, as the Post reported prior to the teams' meeting. "It's not like he changed anything. He continued to allow the team to play the way they're playing and been successful with. It's difficult to coach any team, even a good team. You got to keep them motivated and challenged. Every team that plays Golden State, you're going to see their best. It's tough as defending champions to meet that challenge night in and night out."

"When you think of unselfish play and teamwork, they epitomize it,'' Rambis added.

Whether he was commending Walton on keeping the Warriors moving in a positive direction or saying anyone could've been on the bench and the Warriors would've been that successful is unclear.

Rambis' one criticism of Walton came in assessing Walton as a player with the Los Angeles Lakers when Rambis served as a Lakers assistant.

"Luke's a good guy,'' Rambis said. "Sometimes we wanted Luke to shoot the ball more than he did because he's so unselfish and passes the basketball. But sometimes you got to shoot the ball to keep the defense honest and sometimes you not shooting is almost as bad as taking a turnover. That should've been the shot that was created that was the rhythm shot that should've been taken. But he always was looking to pass. Everybody on the team wanted to be on floor when Luke was playing because he was going to get them the basketball.''
