NFL Trade Rumors: Josh McCown to Be Dealt as Cleveland Browns Agree to Deal With RG3 [Video]

The Cleveland Browns are expected to trade quarterback Josh McCown after acquiring free-agent QB Robert Griffin III on Thursday.

NFL insider Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports reported that the decision to sign Griffin to a deal on Thursday will lead to a trade involving McCown and that the other quarterbacks of the team were also informed of the signing.

McCown made a good account of himself in Cleveland last season, as he tallied 2,109 passing yards with 12 touchdowns and four interceptions in eight appearances. The 36-year-old failed to finish the 2015 NFL season after sustaining a broken collarbone.

It remains to be seen, though, where McCown will land before the start of the 2016 NFL season. According to Yardbarker, the New York Jets, Denver Broncos, Los Angeles Rams and the San Francisco 49ers are expected to be mentioned as potential landing spots because these teams are looking to solve their quarterback issues.

The Browns were also linked to several quarterbacks before agreeing to a deal with RG3. Cleveland parted with Johnny Manziel earlier in the offseason, which opened a spot for a new signal-caller.

Cleveland expressed strong interest in Griffin after the Washington Redskins released the 26-year-old quarterback, who did play in a single game last season after losing his starting spot to Kirk Cousins because of injuries.

Browns new coach Hue Jackson along with associate head coach Pep Hamilton talked to RG3 before the striking a deal. Jackson recently expressed confidence that RG3 could still succeed in the league if given the right opportunity.

Griffin, who has tallied 8,097 passing yards with 40 touchdowns in his first three seasons in the league, said in the official press release from the Browns that he is excited to show what he can do in Cleveland.

"Coach Hue and Pep, I had a great meeting with them," Griffin said in a statement. "I really believe in what they preach and how they can help not only me as a player but this team win games and that's what we're all about. "I'm just excited to come in and compete."

At this point, Griffin is tipped to become their Week 1 starter unless the Browns make another move to acquire one more quarterback this offseason. Cleveland own the No. 2 pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, which they can use to select Carson Wentz of North Dakota State or Jared Goff of California.
