Floyd Mayweather vs Gennady Golovkin Fight Unlikely to Happen as GGG’s Coach Blasts ‘Money’

Floyd Mayweather recently laid out a strong condition before considering facing Gennady Golovkin. But the proposed showdown between the two boxing superstars is unlikely to happen after trainer Abel Sanchez blasted the former champion for his demands.

Mayweather, who is continuously being linked to a possible comeback fight against Golovkin, recently told Fighthype that he will only face Triple G if the 33-year-old champion agrees to face and defeat Andre Ward.

"When you hear stuff about Triple G, like I said before, I told Triple G what he had to do if he wants a fight with me. He's gotta call out Andre Ward, beat Andre Ward, and then I'll fight him. I haven't seen him call out Andre Ward yet," Mayweather said, when asked about facing Golovkin.

Sanchez said Mayweather's demand is ridiculous because Golovkin, will have to move up to the super middleweight division to face Ward, who owns a perfect 29-0 record with 15 knockout victories.

According to BoxingScene, the World Boxing Association, International Boxing Federation and International Boxing Organization middleweight champion is willing to face Ward but at a 164-pound catchweight. However, Ward is not willing to move down to 164 for Golovkin.

Sanchez said that Mayweather is just setting up a trap for Golovkin because the 33-year-old will have to move up to 168 pounds and then move down to 154 for the fight against Mayweather.

"That's how ridiculous that is. He's going to move up to move down," Sanchez said. "That's stupid, c'mon. Why would he come up to 168 and then come down to 154. Do you see what he weighed the other day, at 164."

Sanchez added that Golovkin will only consider moving up to the junior middleweight division once he captures all world 160-pound world titles, admitting that the knockout artist is not ready to make the jump at this point of his career.

"He's not a guy who's a super middleweight," Sanchez said of Golovkin. "When he captures all of the middleweight titles, then we can talk about moving up to 168."

Golovkin, who has a 34-0 record with 31 knockout victories, will face Dominic Wade on April 23 at the Forum in California. If he wins, Golovkin is expected to push for his mandatory fight with reigning World Boxing Council middleweight champion Saul Alvarez.
