The New York Jets and Dallas Cowboys are being linked to quarterback Brian Hoyer, who is expected to get attention on the free agent market after the Houston Texans opted to cut the veteran.
ESPN reported that Hoyer was already informed about his fate, which was quite expected after the Texans struck a four-year, $72 million deal with former Denver Broncos quarterback Brock Osweiler. Houston also re-signed Brandon Weeden to serve as Osweiler's backup, leaving no significant room for Hoyer in the roster.

NFL insider Jason La Canfora revealed that the Jets are one of the teams who are expected to make a strong push to acquire Hoyer. In fact, the Jets will likely schedule a meeting with the 30-year-old quarterback this week.
The Jets are one of teams who are looking for a quarterback, as they have yet to strike a new agreement with Ryan Fitzpatrick. According to Yardbarker, the Jets and Fitzpatrick are still "miles apart" in the contract negotiation. Jets team owner Woody Johnson also told NJ.com that it is not imperative the team will ink a new deal with the QB soon.
"No," Johnson said, when asked if they are in a rush to agree to a new deal with Fitzpatrick. "I think this is a big team. We've made our statements regarding Ryan Fitzpatrick well-known, and I'll stick with those that we've made."
Meanwhile, Hoyer is also being linked to the Cowboys, who are also in search for a quarterback this offseason. The Cowboys are looking for a backup to Tony Romo or eventually a QB who could eventually take his place if the veteran signal caller fails to stay healthy in the coming season.

Ben Davila of Sports Dallas Fort-Worth said that Hoyer, who completed 60.7 percent of his passes for 2,606 yards in 11 appearances for the Texans last season, could be an excellent backup to Romo.
"It's quite clear that Brian Hoyer is not a franchise QB by any means, but he looks like one of the very best back-ups currently available," Davila said of Hoyer, who had 19 touchdown passes against just seven interceptions last season.
