Ever since WrestleMania 32, there has been a shroud of mystery surrounding The Undertaker's in-ring future.
The "Demon from Death Valley" defeated Shane McMahon inside Hell in a Cell at WrestleMania 32 on April 3 at AT&T Stadium in Texas. Since that match, rumors have surfaced that The Undertaker was telling people backstage his career was over and it was his final match.
WWE Hall of Fame announcer Jim Ross isn't buying the rumors.
"Don't you think that if The Undertaker had retired from WWE that [we] would have all known about it?" Ross wrote in his latest Q&A at JrsBarbq.com. "Taker is not retired."
Ross brings up a good point as the WWE would definitely make a huge deal out of one of its biggest wrestlers hanging up his boots.
These types of rumors surround The Undertaker every year, most notably when he lost The Streak to Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania XXX in 2014.
The Undertaker has always come back in these circumstances, even having a busier schedule this past year, which included bouts with "The Beast" at SummerSlam and Hell in a Cell and a battle with The Wyatt Family at Survivor Series.
Given the WWE's rash of injuries in recent months, the company went an odd route for 'Taker at WrestleMania 32. His feud with Shane-O Mac didn't make much sense since they didn't have any type of rivalry and the WWE never fully explained why "The Deadman" was doing Vince McMahon's bidding.
The two still put on a pretty solid match, but nothing that would be worthy of The Undertaker's final bout.
The clash, however, proved pointless.
The stipulation was that if The Undertaker lost, he'd never compete at WrestleMania again, while if he won, Shane wouldn't be able to run "Monday Night RAW." Shane has been in control of "RAW" since the night after the "Show of Shows," and now co-runs it with his sister Stephanie McMahon, while 'Taker hasn't been around.
The latest steps have made the entire thing pointless and made the match a waste of Undertaker's efforts.
Ross may be right about The Undertaker's status, but it doesn't change the flaws in logic the creative team has shown throughout his latest storyline.
