Boston Red Sox Rumors: Sox To Be Among Tim Tebow Showcase Attendees As He Begins Baseball Career [VIDEO]

Count the Red Sox among the reported 20 teams who will be in attendance when Tebowmania takes over the baseball diamond.

Former NFL quarterback Tim Tebow, who hasn't played baseball since high school, is set to put on a tryout on Aug. 30 in hopes of snagging a minor league baseball contract. He hopes to ultimately carve out an MLB career.

The Red Sox are among the teams who will be sending scouts to Los Angeles to get a look at what the former quarterback can do with a baseball, according to NESN.

Other teams linked to appearing include the Phillies and Blue Jays. Tebow is set to partake in a 60-yard dash, catch fly balls, make throws to the bases, and take live batting practice, according to the New York Post.

Tebow owned a .494 batting average in high school, but his pursuit of an MLB career has been met with mixed reactions, with some people calling it a publicity stunt. The former Heisman Trophy winner has told those close to him it's a legit pursuit and he doesn't want to be a "sideshow."

The former NFL star will get pitched to by former MLB pitcher David Aardsma, who last pitched in the MLB with the Braves last season.

"He has an amazing swing," Blue Jays general manager Ross Atkins told Toronto Star.

Tebow had a promising college football career and had runs with the Broncos, Jets, Patriots and Eagles in the NFL. After Philadelphia cut him last September prior to the season starting, the NFL well ran dry on him.

The 29-year-old owns a 47.9 career completion percentage and has thrown for 2,422 yards, 17 touchdowns and nine interceptions in 35 games -- 16 of which were starts.

Even if he doesn't make it, Tebow is already making money off the appearance -- selling signed baseball memorabilia -- so it won't be a total loss.

While many people have considered this quest for Tebow a farce, 2/3 of the MLB clubs are reportedly showing up, so it seems it's gained some steam.
