Roger Federer has given a hint that his career might be soon coming to an end. This news has come just after he has won Australian Open title beating Rafael Nadal.
The 35-year old won his career's 18th Grand Slam title in an absolute thriller game. He said that his return was not guaranteed as he had to wait for five long years to win any grand slam.
Roger Federer who was out of the court for the major part of the year suffering from a knee injury produced one of the best and memorable comebacks ever and took away the Australian Open title. Addressing the Rod Laver Arena crowd he said, "I hope to see you next year, but if not, then it was a wonderful year here and I couldn't be happier tonight" as reported in Free Press Journal.
The Swiss player has been suggesting about his retirement even in the recent past but he said he was not aware that the injuries could seriously affect him. He returned to the court after six long months which was the longest break he took during his career.
"This is all about, you know, knowing that I have only so much tennis left in me," he told the reporters and added "If I do get injured, you know, maybe if I miss next year, who knows what happens... You never know when your next Grand Slam is going to be, if ever. You never know if you're going to have an opportunity at this stage."
So now when everyone was hoping that Roger would be motivated with such a big win and will look forward to achieving much more in the year ahead but he is hinting a retirement soon in his acceptance speech as reported in The42.
This win was very special to him as he compared this victory somewhat similar to his win in 2009 at the French Open which he has won after being defeated successively in three finals. Still, it's not definite about his retirement but his statements have surely put his fans under some worry.
