Lucid Motors Aiming To Compete Tesla With Lucid Air Prototype

Tesla, Inc. is an American automaker and energy storage company that specializes on producing electric cars. It is founded by Elon Musk, Marc Tarpenning, JB Straubel, Martin Eberhard and Ian Wright and is based on Palo Alto, California. The company gained widespread attention when they launched Tesla Roadster, which became the first electric sports car, in 2008.

As of December 2016, the company has sold over 186,000 electric cars worldwide since launching the Tesla Roadster. And from 2015 and 2016, they are the world's second best selling manufacturer of plug-in electric cars.

And since then, many companies tried to compete with Tesla but they didn't last for a long time. They couldn't take down most of the Tesla cars, especially the EV giant. But according to technobuffalo, Lucid Motors is trying to change that with the introduction of Lucid Air prototype. The company said that they are close to mass production of Lucid Air prototype, as further discussed by technobuffalo.

Lucid Motors is not that popular if compared to Tesla. It's just a small company with around 300 employees that created one of the best looking cars to EV market. As a matter of fact, it's so far in the development process that it completed the creation of multichasis. The said model was being toured around the U.S. and was actually showed last weekend at Cars and Coffee.

The innovative sedan captures the eye with its Micro-Lens headlights, stealthy-finish and aluminum body. Its interior is covered with premium leathers and touch displays. But the most impressive specs of Lucid Air prototype include 1,000 horsepower (600 from the rear wheels and 400 from the front wheels), 0-60 mph in 2.5 seconds and 100kWh battery that could deliver over 300 miles in range.

Lucid Air prototype will come with additional options like 55-degree reclining back seats, 130kWh battery with more range and an all-glass panoramic sunroof. Its price range is from $60,000 to over $150,000 which depends on the additional options that a customer chooses.

It is said that Lucid Motors's goal is to begin the production of this prototype by early 2019. And there are still a lot of processes that needs to go through like the EPA testing. But hopefully it could be out in the market in 2-3 years time.

And although a bit small, Lucid Motors are looking to get bigger in the coming years. Actually, it has partnered with Central Arizona College to act as its training ground, as per The Cactus.  The partnership will also train future Lucid Motors employees. These future employees will assign to maintain robotics, maintain facilities and work on the company's production line.
