NBA Trade News: Carmelo Anthony Russell Westbrook Duo Being Formed In OKC

Carmelo Anthony's name has been linked in almost all NBA team's trade scenario going into the Feb. 23 NBA trade deadline. Though Melo may not be going anywhere this season, the idea of a Carmelo Anthony - Russell Westbrook duo in OKC has intrigued a lot of NBA insiders.

Forbes has reported back in January that the Oklahoma City Thunders in intrigued by the idea of pairing the All-Star forward with their own All-Star guard, Russell Westbrook. However, the NBA trade rumor has not gained traction as Melo's name has been dragged to numerous NBA trade scenarios.

To make the Oklahoma City Thunder Carmelo Anthony trade possible, OKC must offer a number of players and draft picks to the Knicks. The OKC Thunders will have to send Enes Kanter, Kyle Singler and a lot more players just to make the Carmelo Anthony trade financially possible.

According to Newsok, adding Carmelo Anthony to OKC Thunder's starting lineup makes some sense for the OKC team. This is because the current starting lineup of the Thunders is having offensive woes as both Andre Roberson and Domantas Sabonis are not tallying good scoring numbers.

The Carmelo Anthony - Russell Westbrook pairing also makes a lot of sense for both players not only in terms of Basketball but also with their own brands. Both NBA All-Star players are under the Jordan Brand. Having them both in OKC could help further boost the Nike-owned Jordan Brand.

In terms of basketball play style, both Westbrook and Anthony are known for dominating the ball. However, Anthony has learned to be a catch-and-shoot scorer in his brief stints with the US national basketball team.

With Westbrook attracting double and even triple team defense at times, Anthony will flourish as a catch-and-shoot scorer. The Oklahoma City Thunders Carmelo Anthony trade deal may also help the All-Star forward in the long run as he will no longer be burdened to carry a team by himself.
