Manchester City Vs. Monaco Set A Champions League Record

The match between Manchester City and Monaco in champion's league on Tuesday was a thriller and they made some history too. City went on to beat the Monaco by 5-3 in their round of 16 first leg at the Etihad stadium.

With total eight goals scored in the match, both Manchester City and Monaco set a record for most total goals in a Champions League knockout round first leg. Sergio Aguero shined again and scored a pair in the second half.

On a night which saw everything in a single match with fluctuating fortunes and thrilling game it was Pep Guardiola's side who had the last smile. Monaco's Radamel Falcao also scored twice along with Aguero. Also, John Stones late strike gave a much needed 4-3 lead to the Manchester City and this show puts them in a strong position ahead of the second leg at their home as reported by CBS Sports.

Leroy Sane was the last to score and gave a strong 5-3 lead for Manchester City after which the crowd at Etihad went crazy and cheered when the goal found the net. Aguero who was not even sure about his future in the team after the arrival of Gabriel Jesus who was given priority by the manager Guardiola has kind of cemented his place after the injury caused to the Brazilian player.

Pep Guardiola praised his team after their win but also warned his side that they will have to score in the return leg next month. "Many things happened, but in some moments we were unlucky and lucky," Guardiola said after the match. "It's not easy to play against them, the old guys played amazing, as did the young guys. This experience will help us. Monaco has more experience in Europe than us and we need this experience to improve. It's the first step. We have to score goals in Monaco but it was a good result" as reported by IBTimes.

This was the second time Manchester United scored 5 goals in Champions League. In 2013 they won by 5-2 Vs. CSKA Moscow. The teams will meet again next month on March 15 at the Stade Louis II in Monaco.
