Mitsubishi News: New Eclipse Cross SUV Launch Date, Expected Price, Specifications [VIDEO]

Mitsubishi has revealed the all-new Eclipse Cross SUV just ahead of its public debut at the upcoming motor show at Geneva 2017. This SUV is an all-wheel vehicle with coupe-like styling inspired by the XR-PHEV-concept of 2015.

The Eclipse Cross SUV will sit in between the ASX and Outlander models in Mitsubishi's international lineup. This means that the upcoming SUV will challenge cars like Nissan Qashqai and Seat Ateca. The plug-in hybird Outlander PHEV has been quite a success but Mitsubishi has left behind the SUV boom with cars such as Qashqai.

Carlos Ghosn is the new chief at Mitusbishi after he left Nissan to take the helm, as a result wave of new models is expected to arrive, but in short-term the Eclipse Cross SUV is expected to boost sales in a growing market before the manufacturer's future plans are revealed.

It will have the option of two engines, a new 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol with a new CVT transmission that will feature an eight-speed Sport Mode manual override, other engine is a 2.2-litre diesel which is specifically modified modified for the Eclipse Cross SUV and comes with a new eight-speed automatic transmission.

The Eclipse Cross SUV will get the same dynamic shield front-end design as the ASX and the Outlander, plus a new red exterior paint. From inside, the car gets a tablet-like infotainment system consisting of a Smartphone Link Display Audio system that supports Apple carplay and Android auto smartphone mirroring apps.

The car also gets a touchpad controller and a head-up display. Mitsubishi's future plans include a replacement for the Outlander and the Outlander PHEV, which is expected to be fulfilled by 2020, while amore direct Juke rival, smaller than the ASX is also under progressive development. For now, all eyes are attached to the Eclipse Cross SUV and the company is confident to run the market with its new launch very nicely.
