NFL News: Adrian Peterson Willing to Take Pay Cut to Join the Patriots

Running back Adrian Peterson wants to hook up with the newly-crowned New England Patriots. With that said, he is willing to take a risk through a salary reduction.

At this point in time, what highly matters to Peterson is the championship ring. With a highly-efficient quarterback in Tom Brady in the field and a brilliant coach in Bill Belichick on the bench, the chance to snare the title remains high heading into football's upcoming season.

Based on that scenario, the former Viking is ready to accept a discount with New England. Considering his $97 million career earnings, taking a chance may not be too steep.

Adrian Peterson is among the players who have entered free agency just recently. Minnesota is due to pay him $18 million had he opted to come back to the Vikings.

Last season has been a rough one for the 31-year old Peterson. A knee injury has sidelined him for all but three games.

The 1.9 yards per carry that he incurred is the lowest of his career. He has only completed 74 rushing yards on 37 attempts.

However, the contributions of Adrian Peterson on the field cannot be dismissed. Prior to last season, the former Oklahoma standout has earned a couple of commendations.

He has earned his third career rushing accolade by dropping a league-leading 1,485 rushing yards to go with eleven touchdowns. In addition, he has been included on the All-Pro First Team for the fourth time. Throughout his playing course, Peterson has acquired an MVP award and seven Pro Bowls citations.

Although the Patriots are due to lose LeGarrette Bount to free agency, it remains uncertain if the football club is interested in Adrian Peterson. The concern is not about the money.

Primarily, the former Viking's glaring behavior may not sit well with New England. It can be recalled that Peterson has had child abuse issues in 2014.

Secondly, the player's open-mindedness to accept a less prominent role on the team will also come into play. The Patriots are known to make per game adjustments which will likely limit Adrian Peterson's prowess in some plays.
