A witness of the prosecution has claimed that he heard a man say "what's up, negroes?" or something like that before the burst of gunfire was heard. The witness, a Marine Corps veteran Ugochukwu Ojimba, who worked security at Cure Lounge, testified Wednesday against ex-NFL star Aaron Hernandez in the double-murder case that started in 2012. Ojimba was apparently referring what seemed to be a so enraged racist attacker to be Hernandez.
Boston Herald reports that Ojimba testified that the car where the gunfire came from pulled up a "mad close" to the vehicle where the slain Daniel de Abreu and Safiro Furtado and three other survivors were riding. He said he and a Cure bouncer Jamie Furtado were riding home and drove up on BMW at Herald Street and Shawmut Avenue and stopped at the middle of the road where the waylaid vehicle was. Thinking there was only an accident, Ojimba, who is trained on first aid, got out only to see Abreu and Furtado riddled with bullets in the front seat. Ojimba did not say he saw Aaron Hernandez at the crime scene when he arrived.
Ojimba's first narrated in court that he did not see Aaron Hernandez "acting aggressively" inside Cure Lounge. He also did not mention a spilled drink caused by any of the victims that threw on Hernandez, the theory advanced by the prosecution which caused the ex-NFL star to kill the two strangers. He said that Hernandez is a "recognizable face" and a "regular patron" among celebrities who frequented the Theatre District.
However, the bouncer witness testified that he had witnessed "something brief" between Aaron Hernandez and Abreu on the dance floor. Also, Raychides Gomes-Sanches, one of the three survivors, testified he was drenched with his blood after Furtado was shot twice in the head. The two others who survived the slaughter were Aquilino Freire and Gerson Lopes. The three were seated behind the victims on the gruesome night of July 16, 2012.
The Boston reports that survivor Freire testified that he recalled waving for help while bleeding heavily from his right arm. He said he told de Abreau to "keep strong" and that "it was like panic." He added that the their group was "just drinking, having fun" inside the Cure Lounge beforehand.
Aaron Hernandez has been accused of fatally shooting both men as he rode in his silver Toyota 4Runner. Hernandez is spending in maximum security prison for the separate murder case he was accused of. In April 2015, he was sentenced to life in prison without parole for the murder of his friend Odin Lloyd. Before these murder cases involving him, Hernandez was the Patriots' bright successfully young stars who garnered a whooping $40-million contract extension.
