Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III was the subject of criticisms from his own receiver for not taking full accountability for the team's loss on Sunday following RG3 throwing a game-ending interception, but the second-year quarterback insists that he and Santana Moss have cleared the air after the receiver said that Griffin needs to take some fault for the team's loss.
"We're on the same page," Griffin said, according to ESPN. "We just want to beat San Francisco."
Griffin admitted that he regretted some of the words he chose after his game-ending interception that sealed the team's 24-16 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.
"We had a certain concept with running and nobody got open so I was backing up, and in the situation where you get a sack there, it ends the game," Griffin said after the game Sunday, according to ESPN. "I was trying to throw the ball to the back of the end zone. It didn't get to where I wanted it to go."
Moss was upset with Griffin's comments after the game and said that Griffin should have just said that he didn't make the play and leave it at that. Griffin responded Wednesday saying that he should have been more careful with his phrasing after the game.
"I just have to know in that situation after a tough loss to a divisional opponent I can't give anybody an opportunity to read into my words and misinterpret anything," Griffin said via ESPN. "I was trying to give a compliment to Philly. I wasn't trying to take shots at anybody and it turned out that way. If I could take that back, yeah I would take it back because in the heat of the moment you're frustrated."
Moss originally criticized Griffin by saying that if the team was going to turn around its 3-7 season that he needs to stand behind his failures with the team and be a leader on a radio show in Washington, D.C. on Monday.
"If we're going to win games, we need to win games with our guy saying, 'At the end of the day, I didn't make a play,' regardless of if it wasn't him," Moss said on the "LaVar and Dukes" show, according to ESPN. "And that's how I feel. Because that's what we're out there to do."
Griffin noted Wednesday that he spoke with head coach Mike Shanahan--with whom he's also had some turmoil--and offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan about his choice of words and what he meant to say.
"It's three guys that want to win," Griffin said per ESPN. "That's the bottom line. Whenever you're not winning, it creates a lot of madness, especially where we're at right now. The only way to stop the madness is for us to win and you've got three guys -- coach, Kyle, myself -- we all want to win and that's a good recipe."
Griffin knows one year removed from leading the team to a 10-6 record and an NFC East title, that the disappointment of falling to 3-7 is what has led to the frustration and rifts within the team.
"I think the 3-7 is the root of the issue," Griffin said, according to ESPN. "We felt like we'd come out and play extremely well and we haven't this year. We haven't been consistent enough. I haven't been consistent enough. It's sad for us and frustrating for us. We know we're not a 3-7 team. That's the tough part."
If the team wants to prove its better than 3-7, it needs to start by beating the San Francisco 49ers in Week 12.
